Landlocked in the high Andes with a strong culture and dramatic landscapes

Landlocked Bolivia is a country of great extremes. The immense tropical Amazon rainforest converges with the foothills of the arid Altiplano, where the biggest salt flat, highest capital city and highest navigable lake in the world leave visitors breathless, and where volcanoes and flocks of pink flamingos are reflected in glistening red, green and white lagoons.

Elsewhere, the colonial city of Sucre and the mining town of Potosí tell both sides of a prosperous yet tumultuous past and local markets burst with wonderful sights, sounds and smells. Its more glamorous neighbours might draw more attention, but Bolivia rewards intrepid travellers with rich culture, Inca heritage, friendly natives, diverse wildlife and some of the most remarkable landscapes in Latin America - where the altitude isn’t the only thing that will take your breath away.
