Paramaribo is the capital city of Suriname, located 15km from the Atlantic coast on the banks of the Suriname River. It’s known for ornate wooden Dutch colonial buildings that you will see throughout the city.. By the river visit the 17th-century Fort Zeelandia houses the Surinaams Museum, with many exhibits on the region's history. Nearby, the wood-and-stone Presidential Palace faces Independence Square and is backed by the Garden of Palms, a public park.
The population is about is an ethnically mixed 250,000 people. There is a good choice of hotels, cafes, bars and restaurants for the visitor to enjoy.
